A Space to gather

Extensions

The clients wanted to improve their dark, cramped kitchen, providing enough space to gather with their family and friends. They also wanted a separate utility room and a downstairs shower room. The space available was constrained due to property boundaries, an existing double garage, a lean-to boiler house and rising ground levels at the back of the house. The solution involved converting part of the garage to provide the new utility and shower room and link it to the house with an extension containing the new kitchen while the old kitchen provided space for a dining area.

A large roof-light floods the new kitchen with natural light while maintaining privacy. The standing seam metal roof of the extension extends over the existing garage, neatly tying the two elements together, with a contemporary feel which contrasts with the existing townhouse.

“From our first meeting it was obvious to us we had made a good choice. Graeme listened carefully to what we wanted to achieve. With Graeme’s advice we decided to contrast the old house with a modern looking extension and we are really happy with the result. It just works. Thanks Graeme.”
